Preparing the scorpions before the big moment
Mating scorpions is fairly easy, as long as you get the scorpions into optimal shape. Before introducing a male and a female into the same cage, make sure both scorpions are well fed and not dehydrated. After they are both stuffed, it is also necessary to have a properly set up cage. You must make sure the humidity is very high, about 90-100%. It must also be hot; a temperature average temperature of 90-95 F is optimal.
Be sure to include a few rocks or decorations with flat surfaces, as the male will lay the sperm on the ground and guide the female over it.
After they mate, you should promptly remove the male, as the female will usually slaughter the male within a few days. It is best to leave a pregnant scorpion alone and not disturb her, as they tend to be more aggressive during this period.
Caring for the babies
It usually takes anywhere from 4 to 8 months after mating before the scorpion has babies.
Scorpions give live birth and have about 8-30 babies. As the babies pop out of the mother, they crawl onto her back and stay there for about 1-2 weeks. After that, they will begin to crawl off of the mother’s back. At this time, they should be removed from the mother, as she may mistake them for food.
Keep the babies in a small container so they will easily be able to find their food. Make sure the container is very humid and quite warm. When they get older and larger, you can start to introduce them into the tank again.
