Feeder Insects

Cricket Care

-Keep crickets at room temperature for optimal results. If the crickets are too hot, they will dehydrate quickly. They will grow faster at warmer temperatures which can be beneficial for some people.

-Make sure you keep the crickets in a escape proof container.  Place egg cartons in the enclosure because crickets love to hide in them.  Your crickets will live longer this way.

-Feed them whole grains or store bought cricket feed.

-Make sure they have a water source at all times.  Crickets drown easily, so a open water dish is not that wise.  I personally find cricket water cubs sold at most pet stores very useful.  A wet sponge will suffice, but is not recommended because they harbor bacteria quickly.  Change the sponge often if you choose this method.

-Quickly clean dead crickets out of the cage or else you will have problems with smell and mites.

-Remember, hungry or thirsty crickets will eat each other.

Superworm Care

-Keep the temperature around 75-80 F.  If the worms are too warm they will usually crawl to the top of the substrate.

-For substrate, you can use peat moss or oat bran, which they will also eat.

-For water, put a couple pieces of sliced vegetables in worms house.

-When placed in the hunters cage, they will immediately burrow into the substrate. Put them on a plate or in a cup to remedy this problem.

-These are much higher in fat than crickets, so it is wise to save these worms as tasty treats.  Scorpions eat these like a corn on the cob.
