Mexican Red Knee

Brachypelma Smithi

The Mexican red knee tarantula has to be the most popular species of tarantula in the hobby.  Not only is this species extremely docile, but it is beautiful too. You should be able to find one of these in a pet store quite easily, but be prepared to pay a hefty price, as they are now illegal to collect from the wild. All store bought specimens are captive breed.

This species is very slow growing and long lived.  There have been reports that this tarantula has lived for over 30 years.

This species is illegal to catch in the wild, which results in high price tags in the pet store.
